Achievements of DBSSS

  • Tailoring Training (Since 1980):

    • Tailoring classes have been running successfully for 45 years.

    • In collaboration with the State Government, DBSSS has provided skill training and certification in tailoring.

    • Thousands of women have been trained, many of whom have started their own tailoring businesses.

    • In the last financial year alone, 50 students were trained.

    • A garment unit is currently being established, offering employment opportunities for trained students.

  • Typewriting Training:

    • Over the last two batches (one year), 110 students were trained.

    • Among them, 25 students secured distinction, and 17 students earned first class in the Government Typewriting Examination.

    • Students are also motivated to appear for government competitive exams.

  • Photography Training:

    • Four students were trained in photography under the mentorship of Mr. Palanikumar, senior photojournalist.

    • Their work was featured in The Indian Express and various YouTube channels, where they shared their life stories through photography.

    • One student was admitted to Loyola College, Chennai, for further studies in visual media.

  • National Recognition:

    • In 2024, DBSSS received an award for Best Youth Service Activities from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

  • Women Empowerment through Microfinance:

    • During 2024–2025, DBSSS disbursed ₹4.64 crores as microfinance loans for women’s empowerment through Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in partnership with NABARD, ICICI Bank, and SURABI.

    • Numerous success stories have emerged, where women have scaled their businesses and improved their financial stability.

  • Silambam Martial Arts Training:

    • 25 children are currently receiving training in Silambattam, preserving traditional Tamil martial arts and promoting discipline and self-defense.

  • Career Guidance and Higher Education Support:

    • Around 70 students from slum communities, especially those in 10th and 12th grades, received career guidance.

    • National-level residential workshops were conducted, with participants from Kerala, Karnataka, and other states, focusing on research and development for marginalized youth.

  • Community Health and Welfare Support:

    • Weekly medical support is provided to around 30 elderly individuals every Friday.

    • 100 e-autos were distributed on subsidy to women in North Chennai, promoting both women’s economic empowerment and environmental sustainability.

  • Awareness and Development Camps:

    • DBSSS has conducted numerous awareness camps on education, health, livelihood, and legal rights, impacting hundreds of families.
